As the last possible expansion for this landlocked cemetery, it was imperative for this team to maximize capacity. This expansion is located between the existing cemetery and an arroyo. The project terrain was steep and challenging, requiring extensive use of retaining walls and grading for the construction of the various burial sections. The site was divided into two crypt fields, two in-ground cremain burial fields, columbarium and four memorial walls. Additional space for columbarium niches was found by using the downhill face of several retaining walls used to terrace the site. An asphalt roadway was designed to create a loop through the expansion along with a concrete sidewalk. An additional 9,364 crypts, columbarium niches, in-ground cremation space and memorial plaques were created with this expansion.
